Labor Day weekend closes out with a full slate of showing, polo, and trail riding across the state. Here's where to be.
Weekend highlights
The Warrenton Horse Show wraps up its run at the Warrenton Horse Show Grounds through Sunday, September 6 — one of Northern Virginia's longest-running hunter/jumper fixtures, and a good one to catch before it closes out.
Down in the Shenandoah Valley, the VA 4-H State Championship Horse & Pony Show continues through Sunday at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, with youth riders competing across multiple disciplines for state titles.
Saturday brings Great Meadow Saturday Polo to Great Meadow in The Plains, a relaxed afternoon of chukkers with tailgating on the rail.
Sunday, Great Meadow switches disciplines for the CDCTA Horse Trials, an eventing outing over dressage, cross-country, and show jumping.
Also on Sunday, Roseland Polo returns to King Family Vineyards in Crozet for its weekly match — bring a blanket and watch the Blue Ridge backdrop while the ball's in play.
Looking ahead
The next two weeks stay busy. The Maryland Horse & Pony Show runs September 9–13 at Grafton Farm in Upperville, followed right after by the Middleburg Classic Horse Show at the same venue, September 16–20.
The Virginia Horse Center in Lexington stays booked solid: the Rockbridge Regional Fair and Expo runs September 10–13, the Virginia Paint Horse Show follows September 11–13, and the weekend of September 18–20 brings both the Virginia Dressage Festival and the VA State Barrel Show Finals to the grounds at once.
