Appomattox Court House National Park Area

Park / Trail

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is a National Park Service site in Appomattox, Virginia, preserving the village where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, effectively ending the Civil War. The park includes the reconstructed courthouse visitor center, the McLean House where the surrender took place, and hiking trails through the historic village. It is a general historic/recreational public site rather than a dedicated equestrian venue.
