The George Washington National Forest spans the Shenandoah Valley and Allegheny Mountains of western Virginia, managed by the USDA Forest Service as part of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. It offers over 1,290 miles of trails open to horseback riding along with six developed horse campgrounds, including several in the North River and Lee Ranger Districts near Staunton.
