The first edition of a new feature here on the blog: results from Virginia's competition weekends. We're starting with a good one — Saturday's stakes doubleheader at Colonial Downs in New Kent, where Virginia-bred horses won both $100,000 races, and the same trainer saddled both winners.
Shenandoah Stakes — $100,000
Hark Theangelssing wired the field, winning by two lengths under jockey Ismerio Villalobos. The Virginia-bred filly set the pace, held off pressure from Spinelli and Carolyncaroline, and covered six furlongs on the turf in 1:09.17. She's now 4-for-7 lifetime.

Colonial Turf Dash — $100,000
Doubting Thomas did it the hard way — back of the pack early, six-wide in the stretch, up by a neck at the wire under Mychel Sanchez. The Virginia-bred colt ran the six furlongs in 1:08.66 and is now 3-for-5 in his career.
Both winners are homebreds of the late Larry Johnson, and both are trained by Michael Trombetta — a stakes sweep for one of the great Virginia breeding programs.

The Lexington National Horse Show A – Festival of Champions finished its championship classes Sunday at the Virginia Horse Center — we've published the full results, from the $25,000 Grand Prix to every division champion. The Oakdale Summer HT/CT & Dressage Show also ran Sunday in Powhatan; we'll link those results when organizers post them.
